IN THE LAB
ARCHAEOLOGY
The Maritime Conservation Laboratory has a dedicated team committed to preserving the integrity and authenticity of submerged cultural material recovered. Equipped with a range of consolidation methods and non-invasive conservation techniques, our laboratory boasts an impressive arsenal of knowledgeable staff and powerful technology.
CHEMISTRY
Our laboratory hosts a complex armory of chemical consolidation equipment, bringing chemistry to the forefront of submerged archaeological conservation. With particle size distribution and total dissolved solids testing, high-energy UVB radiation spectroscopy, and chemical compounding capabilities for conservation, our laboratory is the heart of our organization’s work.
MICROBIOLOGY
Whether the context is prehistoric or from a diagnostic historical era, non-invasive archaeological conservation is made possible by our comprehensive compound light microscopy of sediment and water samples collected from submerged sites. Our laboratory is able to trace the local bacteria and tidal condition chemistry over time affecting the microbiome of each submerged site.
