Summer Artifact Recovery
With the months heating up, so is the time for diving. The temperatures on the East Coast towards the Atlantic range from 75 to 92 on an average day and the waters are optimal for some archaeology to be done.
In July, we plan to make our yearly trip to Charleston, South Carolina. With our dive site being located on the Cooper River, we will be preparing for another shore dive for this recovery for ease of access to the site.
The focus for this project will be to conduct remaining surveys and artifact retrievals for the area of wreckage with high pre-contact pottery probability from the recovery in 2020. Reconstructing the remaining fragments will provide valuable insight to the previously recovered sherds with organic staining from the previous lab reports.
Please console your local dive center for recommendations for blackwater diving and brackish low visibility environments, and contact a project coordinator for more information.
We hope to see you out there!
